Happiness hormones. 7 reliable ways to release endorphins

Along with the growing fashion for an active lifestyle, we hear about them more and more often. However, it is not only with the help of sport that we can release endorphins and feel good. Here are some effective ways to boost your happiness hormones.

 

Natural mood enhancers The
beneficial effects of endorphins need no introduction. They evoke a positive feeling and make us look at the world through pink glasses even on a cloudy day. Their secret is best summed up by Dr. Alana Biggers of Medical News Today:

– Endorphins are natural chemicals that our nervous system produces to deal with pain and stress.  They are often called “happiness hormones” because they act as painkillers and mood enhancers all rolled into one.

Most often we feel their effects after intense physical exertion, e.g. sports training. However, to enjoy them fully, we must train carefully, because if we overestimate the capabilities of our body, the effect will be exactly the opposite. Fortunately, we will also release endorphins in other, quite pleasant ways, and their effects are cumulative.

 

7 ways to release endorphins

  1. Chocolate
    Certainly, no one needs to be convinced of this method. The taste of chocolate effectively improves the mood, but its effect goes much deeper. According to dr hab. Eng. Alleghenies Filipino-Florentine from the University of Agriculture in Krakow and a member of the Wankel Board of Experts:

– It is no coincidence that people reach for chocolate when they are in a bad mood. […] Research shows that sometimes the very smell or texture of chocolate evoke a feeling of happiness. In addition, chocolate supports the production of dopamine – a neurotransmitter that causes a good mood and affects the secretion of methamphetamine, a hormone that is also present when we are in love.

  1. Chili pepper
    Method for enduring. Capsaicin in chili peppers stimulates the body to release endorphins as effectively as chocolate. There is only one “catch” – the spicier the chili flavor, the more effective it is. Perhaps that is why Mexicans who like spicy dishes decided to combine the two endorphin elements and eat chili mixed with dark chocolate.
  2. Wine/ The inhabitants of the Mediterranean countries have known about it for a long time, hence the aperitif served on French tables before a meal. As Irish scientists of the Journal of Neuroscience proved in 2014, limited amounts of alcohol improve our well-being without negative health effects. Of course, by a limited amount we mean a maximum of 1 glass (125 ml) of wine a day, or … a chocolate with rum.
  1. Vanilla and lavender
    We can also release endorphins through our sense of smell. Especially the scent of vanilla and lavender has a soothing effect. That is why we can feel them, for example, in some waiting rooms of public institutions. However, if we don’t like waiting anywhere, let’s just dissolve a little vanilla extract in our tea or light a scented candle.
  2. Massage A
    relaxing massage after a stressful day at work or hard training will have a beneficial effect on the mood. The same goes for yoga and acupuncture, which we can combine with aromatherapy. Endorphin researcher, prof. Candace Pert, praised their positive influence:

– My research on endorphins shows that massage stimulates the body’s natural chemicals, which have a stimulating and beneficial effect on human well-being.

 

  1. Meditation
    Stopping in the daily run and taking a moment to quiet down inwardly can also work wonders. Contrary to appearances, meditation, i.e. cleaning your head of unnecessary thoughts and focusing on the present moment, is an extremely difficult art. However, it is worth practicing because it releases endorphins and significantly reduces stress. In addition, meditation just before training helps you achieve better results, says Dr. Aubrey Bailey of the American College of Sports Medicine.

 

  1. And finally – laughter
    Probably the simplest method of releasing endorphins. You do not need any training for it – laughter is a natural way of relaxing the facial muscles and internal tension. It can be uncontrolled and for no reason, and it works anyway – let’s try even now!
